Seth brings over 25 years of broad experience in the forensic engineering field to Compass Consulting Engineers. Since the early 1990’s he has reconstructed ski and winter sports events including collisions on the slopes, ski lift incidents, snowmobile accidents, and conducted operational code compliance evaluations. Seth also conducts general motor vehicle accident reconstruction encompassing many types of on and off-road vehicles. He has evaluated industrial accidents, investigated industrial safety issues, and performed mechanical failure analysis of various types of machinery, bicycles and winter sports equipment.

Seth is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado, California and Hawaii. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. Seth has been granted four patents on snowboard boot binding systems and has direct knowledge inventing, engineering, and bringing these types of systems to market. He is certified in traffic accident reconstruction from Northwestern Traffic Institute. Seth is also certified to download event data from passenger vehicles.

Seth has been a practicing engineer since 1986 and a licensed P.E. since 1990. He began his career providing mechanical, chemical, and operations oversight of geothermal power generation facilities for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. In 1991 Seth entered the world of accident reconstruction and forensic failure analysis while concurrently working in the snowboard industry. Seth has consistently given back to the professional community as evidenced by being a guest lecturer for the ASTM F27 Committee, Black Hills Claims Association, Ski and Snowboard Accident Reconstruction Seminar, and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

Nowadays, Seth splits his time between Colorado and Mexico. He was an All-American in Alpine Ski Racing three out of four years at the University of Colorado and the National Giant Slalom Champion in 1982. Seth rounded out his ski competition winning the National Corporate Ski Challenge Giant Slalom four years in a row. His success as a competitive skier gives him an inside perspective when he investigates winter sports accidents. Seth also enjoys recreational cycling, is a serious surfer, and qualified for the Guinness Book of World Records in 2011.
